1994 Fall EECS Softball Stats

Below are the stats for the entire EECS Softball League for the 1994 fall season. These statistics have been collected and organized by Ken Tsai (tsai@mickey.cs) and Srini Seshan (ss@orodruin.cs)- we should all give them a big hand for taking the time to organize this. If you have any questions about the database then you should talk to them.

You have to have a minimum of 15 at bats to qualify for the hitting and slugging leader boards (this number will increase by 2.5 at bats every week).

BA: Batting Average. This is the percentage of times that you get a hit.
Slug%: Slugging percentage. This is the number of bases you get per hit on the average.
OB%: On Base percentage. This is the number of times that you get on base per plate appearance. A walk counts as being on base but not as a hit (that's why the batting average is different from the on base percentage).
RBI: Runs Batted In. This is the total number of runs that you have ever batted in.

Normal refers to your batting style (as opposed to your eating habits). Switch means that you were batting opposite handed.

Rules for recording statistics

There aren't that many rules for recording statistics in this league. The major ones are listed out below.

Every time that a player hits the ball they get a hit. Except for the following cases:
1. They got out (duh).
2. There was a person on base that was thrown out by a force play. So if there is somebody on first and you hit the ball to the short stop and they get the person out running to 2nd then that does NOT count as a hit for you. This is called a fielders choice.
If there is an error (or many) during the play the hit still counts. It would be ridiculous to attempt to keep track of errors in this league. There are probably a lot more that I just forgot. Let me know if you think of any.
